The location was super convenient, just a stone's throw away from the CBD but surprisingly peaceful. I was upgraded to a lower floor room, so no climbing stairs! The room itself was surprisingly spacious with comfortable single beds and even had its own hand basin. The kitchen was well equipped and labeled, making it easy to store and cook my own food. The communal areas were great, with different lounge rooms, a pool/music room, and even a piano and pool table. The overall vibe was cozy, and the staff were friendly, keeping the place clean and providing lots of information on things to do in the city. The shower was hot and powerful, which was a real treat. Plus, there were board games available for some leisurely fun. for the price I paid, this place was mind-blowingly good!

I recently stayed at Chalet Backpackers for a weekend getaway. The location was perfect, just a short walk from the octagon and surrounded by an energetic atmosphere. The downstairs dining room was charming and the overall history of the place added to its charm. The house itself was beautiful and cozy, with a small library on the third floor and a lovely view of the city from the entrance. The kitchen was spacious and there were comfortable lounge areas on each floor. The reception also provided recommendations for things to do in the area. My room was quiet and impeccably clean. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this hostel.
Can't recommend highly enough this hotel.

I had a great stay at Chalet Backpackers. The location was perfect, close to all the action but away from the busy streets. The cozy-homey vibe of the old hospital building made me feel comfortable and relaxed. The staff was friendly and always available to help. The view from the balcony over the city was simply amazing. I highly recommend this hostel for a peaceful and enjoyable stay.

The private room at Chalet Backpackers was a real treat! The hotel quality mattress felt like sleeping on a cloud, and the soft poly-cotton sheets made me snuggle in comfortably. The duvet and pillow were just the cherry on top. As a budget traveller, I couldn't have asked for more!
Some may find the bedding at Chalet Backpackers a tad too luxurious for a budget stay, but hey, to each their own!

The view from the window was nice, but I had to climb those hills every day - they should offer a Sherpa service! The room was spacious enough, but the bed was as bent as my ex-husband's morals.
The place was colder than an ice queen's heart, especially the bathroom. Refurbish much?

The place had a cozy-homey vibe with high ceilings, large old-fashioned rooms, and stunning city views. The staff were super friendly and always available. Free street parking was a plus. The kitchen and bathrooms were clean and well-organized. The pool table and piano were amazing additions, and the dining and TV rooms were comfortable with lots of seating. The decorations on the walls added a lovely touch. The fairy lights in the main corridor were beautiful. The no-alcohol policy and quiet after 10pm made for a peaceful stay. this was the best hostel I've stayed at in New Zealand, with a friendly and close community.

Incredible staff, mind-blowing showers, super food facilities, jaw-droppingly comfortable beds, and free internet chess. No late-night parties, a key to our room, and respectful young travelers. Better than stuffy motels! Friendly, safe, and affordable. Thanks a million!

Largest swimming pool in the southern half of NZ. Lots of fitness facilities and entertainment for children. Beautiful Flemish Renaissance-style architecture. Historical museum and public art gallery. Scenic walk to a secluded beach. Interesting museum displaying nature, culture, and science. Stroll around cliffs to Second beach.
Sarcasm would go here about something at the hotel you didn't like, but it seems you liked everything. Good for you, I guess.
Tourists from South Africa often stay at these properties. Ideas for your future trips.
